My Love Affair With Rome
Ah Roma – what a city! There are so many things to love about this place. History, culture, food and fashion. It really has it all. I was excited to have a break away with my girlfriend and my daughter and enjoy the sunshine (I hear it is cold back in Melbourne!) and long walks about this amazing city. It doesn’t matter how many times I see the Colosseum, walk through Vatican City, sit on the Spanish steps and make a wish a the Trevi Fountain, there is something intoxicating about Rome. I find Italy a very sensory experience. It is rich visually, has its own fashion style, the food is amazing and varied (I need to watch that Figura,no calorie counting here!) and of course the warmth of the people. People have time to stop and share the time of day. Not the hustle bustle of London, or even Melbourne for that matter.
If you are going to Rome there are a couple of things that you must do (outside the normal tourist destinations) and that is:
- Shopping at Via Condotti – just down from the Spanish Steps are all the big designers. Nothing like a holiday splurge!
- Del Bolognese – reserve a table outside and enjoy the amazing food and the people watching. This restaurant is a classic and a must!
- Gelati – 1 or 2 a day. It’s never enough! Freshly churned and utterly delicious
- Pastificio – they make fresh pasta every day in this store and you can purchase a huge bowl for just four euro. They only offer two choices, but it’s made on premise and amazing.
Looking forward to sharing more of my trip with you! I am off to Cheshire and will keep you updated with my London adventure! xx
